I am in the process of having a big clear out of my home ..... the bedroom needed painting, which forced me to empty the entire room, then I did away with one of my huge bookcases (actually we are using it in my daughters room), which made me donate a lot of books and magazines to the local charity shop, so that was a really good start.
Now, I don't see myself as a massive consumer or a hoarder and I have been trying to make a conscious effort to not buy anything I don't really need .... so I really can't believe how much "stuff" I actually have. I plan on being very brutal with my interior culling, I remember reading a book by Terence Conran and he swears by emptying everything out of the room on to the lawn and only putting back what you really love and need, don't think I will go that far but I think it's a good theory.
I really do want a bit more simplicity and sparseness though, don't worry I'm not going all minimalist or anything .... but I do think a good clear out is good for the soul, I know I will feel great when I eventually get through it.
Wish me luck, between you and me I think I have created a bit of a monster !!!
I thought I would share these interior shots with you, I find them quite inspiring in their simplicity.
I always love the look of a mattress on the floor in a bedroom, think I'm going to try it when we get everything back in there.
PS ......
I did make one "needed" purchase on the weekend .... this is a much less expensive version of the Ptolomeo bookcase, I love the look of it and it is so practical and space saving , I was really surprised at how many books it held, not sure where it will end up living yet. This is my dining room at the moment .....
...... and my empty bedroom.
Goes without saying, I better get back to work !!!

I know what you mean about a good clear out. It really is good for your soul. I stripped our apartment to the bones (maybe slight exaggeration!) recently. Took me about a month. For a place that my friends think is uncluttered there was still stuff to throw out. It surprises me everytime I do a clear out! Good luck with yours!
I just discovered your blog (via Jokemijn)and these rooms are wonderfull. This is a good inspiration ! thx ingrid
oh wow, from your bedroom it looks like you're doing it very seriously. i know exactly how you feel. i love the simplified look and i need more space to work, but i don't know how, but stuff comes to me again from all sorts of places.
The bookshelf looks awesome. Although it makes me nervous as it looks like it's about to topple over!
Love the bedroom pic too, a mattress on the floor done right can look great. (And if it's done wrong it just looks like the bedroom of every boyfriend I had in my early 20's)
very brave :) i'm a book collector too although my collection seems a little smaller. My place always looks a little messy and i think it needs a bit of air to calm me down sometimes :) But still i'm not brave enough to go through my stuff and throw things away. I just imagine buying a very big appartment with rooms that i don't have to open that often :)
good luck with everything! - i'm sure it will look beautiful and will be very satisfying when you're done!
